Stadtpfarrkirche Bad Ischl, Salzburg
We will sing a concert at Bad Ischl, located in the Salzkammergut (Lake District) area of Austria.
Bad Ischl is an ‘Imperial Town’ where the Emperor Franz Josef spent his entire summers. The town has been associated with the Hapsburg imperial dynasty for at least 700 years. The Imperial Villa in Ischl, the Emperor’s summer residence, was described by Franz Josef Haydn as ‘heaven on earth’ for himself and his family.
On the organ balcony is the large imperial organ: the “Organ of the Emperor’s Jubilee” as it was donated to the church in 1910 by the Emperor Franz Joseph I for his 80th anniversary. The organ was restored by Rieger again in 1993. It has 3 manuals, 59 registers and pedals and 3,789 pipes. Anton Bruckner came and played on that organ as it had the reputation to be one of the best of the whole Empire.
